Sounds funny & corny to write abt a true story that has so much love and compassion that I wanted to ask this question..A man committed suicide last wk becos he couldn't find a job and he only have enough money left for this wife and 2 sons to have one meal for that day. After he gave the money to his son to buy the food, he went to the train station and threw himself infront of the train and died. As they were so poor, the funeral parlour gave them free service etc...as this story was publish in the papers, lots of ppl came and donated money to the family and the amount came up to be half a million dollars ! What do u call this? Can death change destiny for this family? I myself have a debt amt of $80k, & had being paying it off for the last 3 years and will probably take another 4 years to clear it all. I can't imagine if there will be ppl out there who can help me? Will they be such kind hearted ppl that can do this without having anything in return besides just be happy to help???

Well i feel that sometimes people only appreciate you after you die. Just look at police officers, soldiers and firefighters; When they die in the line of duty, they are given the three gunfire salute and so much respect but if they were to do a mistake in the course of duty, they will be reprimanded by superiors.

I think the same applies in this situation. When you are alive, no one appreciates you but when you die donations started to flow in and stuffs.

It depends on how you look at the whole situtation. You can't compare case by case. In this case the guy is so poor and being jobless for few months and the debts is mounting, so he chose to end his life where he leave his family members to face the consequences. Can you imagine if we don't donate money to them what will happened to their families?
I don't know what make you have a debt of such high amount? If the debt is due to credit card, I think you better find ways to pay it off and not let your family members face the consequence

Peoples are not stupid to give money without seeing a big picture. In that case, it is an evidence of poverty that those well wishers knew. Should there be more suicides because of amounting of huge personal debts then I don't think peoples will come forward to help. In your case, I don't think you have a good reason of accumulating the 80 K debt, so you think people will come forward to help you, should you commit suicide ?

You acquired those debts. You obviously aren't suffering because you have a computer and internet access- why is it somebody else's job to pay it off? Learn some responsibility and quit telling stupid stories about homeless people that have been circulating email inboxes for years now and trying to pass them off as true current events just so you can try to gain sympathy from someone in hopes they'll send a little money your way.

First of all, suicide is the coward's way out. Secondly, if you are that much in debt, you were/are living way beyond your means. Do like so many of us do that need more money--get a side job or two. Get yourself out of the mess you made. don't expect others to take care of you.

to be fair to MIC, the story is a real one. its the most talked about issue in singapore right now.

but MIC, this is not funny nor corny. settle your own debts and stop whining. you have to take responsibility for your own credit history.

Don't count on it. And life insurance doesn't pay if you kill yourself.
