No matter what I go into he's sitting there. When I put the pointer on him it turns to the eggtimer. The right click won't work. Does anyone know how I could get rid of him, please?

I cannot click onto it because the pointer turns into an eggtimer when I go onto the icon, the way it does when a programme is not responding.

To Michael R,
My add/remove programmes doesn't give me the option to modify, only to remove.

Have you restarted your computer?

If it isnt closing as you said and right click isnt working on it. Press F1 (help) the assistant is going to bring a dialogue box with the "type your question here", "options" and "search" buttons. Click on option, then uncheck the radio button "use the office assistant"
Another way to do this is Clicking on the Help tab on the Menu bar and in the drop down options click "hide the office assistant".
If you still press F1 after it will still show the office assistant. The only way to disable it is by the first method.
If you cant disable or hide it. It better you close the Office application and restart it to see of you can do so.

Click onto it and a box will come up, scroll down to Delete, then just click onto it.
