My understanding is that by letting in outside influences, the possible destruction of their beliefs occurs. Such as if the informaton is not in their universe, it does not exist. So, if one does not know what stealing or rape is, then it is less likely that stealing or rape would occur. The same is told of TV and the lessonning of our senses of violenc.e

Because that's how you convert people and keep them converted. Religions really have no facts to back them up. They rely on emotional manipulation leveraging common human insecurities to get people hooked into the belief. This is why they frequently focus on children, who are more likely to buy into the beliefs. They have to keep the pressure on as people get older so that they don't start thinking for themselves and break out of the belief system.

The whole point of religion is political control over the thoughts and actions of others. It's additional function is to sap the financial, physical and/or time resources of adherents for its own purposes.

For your own health and well-being, stay away from religious people and institutions. This was the advice of Ben Franklin, and I daresay he was correct.

Deep down a person knows that they do not really know that what they believe- no matter what they believe. That is a scary reality for everybody. It freaks me out.

Many people choose to live in denial of this fact. Their feelings of discomfort are transformed to feelings of rage or disdain. That helps them feel less vulnerable

It seems that way because you don't want to admit maybe you are wrong. It's not oppression (at least not by me) It is the truth. Only by accepting who the truth is can one be eternally saved.
