I tried the peanut butter and found that the mice would lick it off the trap and not set it off. I was told by a friend that the mouse must have been small or a baby. (did not try the birdseed on it though) The best thing that worked was a blue cube poison that was given to me by the pest control guy that came by our office at work. I put it under the fridge and within 6 days no more mouse. I did see on another web site where they mentioned that organic peanut butter did not work for them. The link is below.

Try the link below for this natural mouse repellent which uses fox and bobcat urine soaked in crystals. It uses the mouse's fear of it's natural predators to keep it away from your house and it won't hurt, pets, kids, etc. if they get into it and it's not like poison where they eat it and die in the walls and prevents new mice from going near it. Don't use peanut butter either. We had the same problem. They lick the stuff all the way down to the metal and it doesn't set it off. We switched to Alouette brand Brie cheese which is a very soft cheese almost like butter, but more sticky than peanut butter and that did the trick. They have to lick it harder to get it off and presto, SNAP, problem solved. Good luck.

Never used it, but it is worth a try and should work. I think it is the smell of the peanut that they go after not the sugar.

Yes, it'll work fine -- you may also want to add a trail of oats leading up to the trap.
