How did he live his life as a disciple of Jesus? How did he LIVE the gospel?

He definitely lived out the life that he thought that Jesus wanted him to live. For that we have to give him credit. I have no doubt that Barrigan was sincere. I also have no doubts that he was badly misguided.

I don't read where Jesus went around beating up Roman military equipment, or preaching the evils of Roman militarism. Jesus had lots of opportunities to beat up the government of his day, and according to the Gospels failed to do so.

Did he live the gospel? Well, first of all, what is your one-sentence of "the Gospel"? If your definition is something like, "God's love is offered to each and all, and God commands us to love each and all" then we still don't have an answer.

When the US ceased its military actions in Vietnam, 3 million people were killed by the communists, and tens of millions more were forced to practice their religion only under penalty of death.

I'm not even sure that a tribunal of saints would agree with his actions - the traditional branches of the Church (Roman Catholic or Protestant) basically rejected his activism, except for selected pockets.
