I mean no disrespect, I understand that certain dietary practices are relevent for religous purposes. However I do not understand the logic behind being a vegan/vegetarian without such religous inlfuences. If it is too stop animal suffering, do not plants suffer as well? If it for politics or health reasons please elaborate as Im am very curious. Please remeber,I mean no insult. I just do not know any Vegitarians and would like to know your motives.

Of course plants feel pain. This is not a question of opinion, but science. They even feel anxiety.
Is it not eating animals but eating plants in a way a hierchy?
In a similar fashion humans create a hierarchy when they place themselves above beasts and those eat them?
Those is this not hypocracy?

there's always going to be animal suffering. I may not eat an animal and let it run free, but I can guarantee you that it will be eaten or die an unpleasant death in the wild. A lot of animal rights activists are people who've never had to deal with real world animals. Their experiences are limited to what they've seen on TV, at the zoo, and in their backyards.

The wild is an unfriendly place... go to a country where people have to work hard to survive. People aren't going to let their children starve because of animals so called rights. You mention animal rights over there and you will get laughed at or stoned.

There are no rights not even for humans. Rights are an illusion we maintain for peace sake. The world is cruel.... wonderful but cruel. Only the tough survive. There is no such thing as a 'sweet innocent animal', because sweetness and innocence don't last in the natural world.

Having known a few vegans/vegetarians, I can say each person does it for different, personal reasons. One friend finds industrial animal raising methods to be inhumane so she refuses to be a part of that business cycle. Also she thinks the hormones and feed used in the industry is unhealthy. Another friend loves animals so she won't eat them. In their view, plants are not "alive" the way animals are and therefore do not suffer. Another friend was told as a young kid that the hamberger she was eating was a cow and the image disgusted her so much she became a vegetarian at 7 years old. You don't have to be religious to feel sympathy for animals.

I'm not vegan (i sadly dont have the discipline to be) but the reason is plants dont have a heart beat. If i had the discipline i would be too, we dont need meat to survive and when you stop and think about it, it's truly cruel that we farm animals just to ease a certain taste for steaks and pork crackle...etc

Some would claim it's because plants don't have a highly developed central nervous system and brain like a large mammal does. They wouldn't have the same level of sensory input, fear hormones, emotions or nerve impulses.
