I'd check for water in the fuel. You don't have a MAF sensor, so I'd check the MAP and its vacuum connections.
if there are no "Lean condition" codes stored you can PROBABLY eliminate the fuel pump for the time being. Check the fuel pressure later if all else is sound.
Possible failure with the TFI module, may require a change.
if you don't have the test equipment or some diagnostic ability, you would be better off in the long run to seek the services of a REPUTABLE repair shop displaying the ASE Shingle.

Good Luck

I had a brand new '87 LX 5.0L. It may just need a tune-up. But, most probably the engine is not getting proper pressure. I had problems with my piston rings which caused it to foul plugs. I would have an experienced Mustang V-8 technician look at it.

It was a fun car to drive, but had many issues. You just have to ask yourself, is it worth the constant trouble?

i own a repair shop, and i think you need to change the fuel and air filter on it,and check and make sure you have enough fuel pressure to it,it sounds like it might be loosing fuel pressure ,and this can be caused by a weak fuel pump on it,who knows it may be the original one on it,but id check it and see,and it could need a good set of plugs put in it also, usually when they start acting like this it real hard to diagnose, you have to check everything on it ,,just to be sure, good luck i hope this help,s some with it,
