i honestly have never heard of this before.... I've heard of not speaking in "baby language" such and goo goos and ga gas because it supposedly confuses the baby and he learns to speak a bit slower, but not of tickling. I was tickled all the time as a child and I grew up just fine. I am and have always been a straight A student, and am currently enrolled in the college of my choice and persuing the job of my dreams. So if tickling is what got me here then I say tickle away. I started talking at an early age as a matter of fact, and havn't ever had any speech problems. Well, it's all a matter of opinion i guess, but either way GOOD LUCK in your desicion making. To Tickle or not to tickle.....

Completely bizarre.

And, no.

We tickled my oldest all the time--she loved it--and she was talking in two-and three-word sentences at 9 months, and has a ridiculous vocabulary at 3. She has no speech problems.

What would be the purported mechanism for tickling to affect speech? It just doesn't make any sense at all...

Never heard of it, don't know of anyone who would have heard of it, must be some cultural thing from somewhere else, I've been all over the U.S. and never heard of it. I think it's a stupid notion at best...

hi!
i have 2 daughters and my mom swears by that old saying "tickling a baby leads to a baby studdering when they talk". i have never heard of this being true.
but my mom also told me not to let my baby stand on her legs when she is tiny cause she will be bow legged.....my daughter loved to stand on her legs...and she is not bow legged at all.
i think there are alot of old wives tales out there.
