I'm 17 and I have taken the birth control pill on and off for very severe cramps. I finally found one that worked: Levlin, which I am changing to Seasonale (which is the same hormonal formula, just taken for 3 months, not 3 weeks). One problem: I get severe nausea during the day. I know why the pill makes me nauseous, it's just that I feel like I have to choose between horrible cramps and horrible nausea.

Any thoughts? Any advice on how to stop the nausea?

I DON'T take the pill for birth control, I take it to relieve menstrual cramping. I do not have sex with men, so pregnancy protection is not an issue.

For nausea you should try taking your pill later in the day like right before you go to sleep. That way you will sleep right through the nausea. You can also try taking it with a light snack or a meal. Also, try taking ginger supplements or motion sickness medication as that can greatly reduce nausea.

You may also want to talk to your doctor about switching brands. You can skip your periods with any monophasic pill. Seasonalle is not special. It's just a marketting ploy so, if your body doesn't react well to those hormones switch brands and keep skipping your period.

Also, you say you take the birth control pill on and off. Does that mean you forget pills or that occasionally you go off it for a few months? Either way, you are increasing your chances of side effects like nausea because your body needs to adjust to the hormones and cannot do this if you take your pills irratically or take unnnecessary pill breaks. It can take up to 3 or 4 months for your body to adjust to the pill although you are protected from pregnancy after 7 days.
