It really depends on why your wrist hurts. I would needed futher information but I assume it's accute pain. I hurt my wrist a month ago digging a 50ft long trench for my dad. It didn't start hurting until days later but my wrist swelled up, my hand was tingling, I couldn't turn or twist my wrist at all. At work I have to lift boxes that can weigh up to 50lb and it was killing me. The thing was my wrist only got worse by the day and I almost went to see a doctor. One night I wrapped my wrist in an ace banddage that I picked up for $3 so I could immobilize my wrist for my night at work. That seemed to help a lot and within a few days my wrist returned back to normal and I haven't had a problem with it since. If you have a condition that is brought on by work called CTS you may need surgery to help with the pain. You can also try ibuprofen or some other type of pain reliever and see if that helps. I hope your wrist gets better soon though.

i had surgery for carpal tunnel on both wrist this past may and one last year in sept the signs are first your hands start going to sleep andgetting a tingling feeling like little picks and as times goes on the pain gets really bad to where it wakes you up at night and you have to get out of bed and walk it off it just continues till you have surgery , there is a test they do to check for it cause the x-ray doesn't really show nothing and they will make you go to therapy wear a sprint which is a waste of time ,just tell them to give you the test to find out if you have it that same day it will help you take care and decide what you want to do .the surgery isn't bad at all i was given vicodine and never took it cause i wasn't in hardly any pain just sore went back to work in 2 weeks by choice good luck

Carpol tunnel syndrome or repetative stress syndrome. If the pain is severe there is an operation that can be done, but first you could wear wrist splints.
