I would like to buy an Averatec Notebook, because they're small and cheap, but what can you tell me about the quality of them?

This is the computer I want to but -> http://www.averatec.com/notebooks/1000series.htm

I have one and use for occasional use when I travel..nice. They are however a pain to repair if something goes wrong...parts are hard to find.. If you have the option of an extended warranty I would take it (that's the case with ALL laptops because they are a pain to repair..). The link you provided lists several reviews for the Averatec 1000.
Cnet rates it 6.2 (good) and has over 25 individual user opinions on it.

I purchased my first 1020 from CompUSA on Monday night. Got it home and went through the basic setup. After a few minutes I noticed the screen begin flicker then it began to compress the video into a line at the top of the monitor and finally it would just flash on and off. So I took it back to CompUSA on Tuesday and got a replacement. Got it home later that night, plugged it in and the machine wouldn't boot. The battery light was on as was the power light and the wireless light, but nothing would happen and the drive light just stayed dark. I haven't decided if I'm going to try again or just take this as a sign.

Update - Two Months Later
Ok, So I decided to try one more time and the third one worked. I made sure we went through the setup @ CompUSA before I left the store. It worked fine until Halloween. It started to blue screen but I thought that might have been a problem with an unfinished software update from either Microsoft or Symantec. I reinstalled and the same thing happened. As it turned out the error recovery message that popped up said that my memory was bad. I guess I'm going back to CompUSA again. For what its worth, the computer was pretty cool when it worked.
