I hear radio stations at night before i fall asleep. I can hear music, commericals, DJ's just like i have a radio on, but I don't. I've told my friends and family that I can hear all of this and they say I'm crazy and don't believe me. I've heard this for a very long time. I feel that some how the motor in the fan acts as a receiver and the virbration of the fan acts as a speaker. I turn the fan off and then I don't hear it anymore. I can pick this up on osculating {sp?} fans and also ceiling fans. Please answer my question, I'm begining to believe I'm crazy too.

well... if you take the wires that go to a speaker and put them on an electric motor you can hear music.. so if there were these signals in the electric lines you might here it... but i doubt it... and im not sure this would work with ac motors(the ones you plug into an outlet) ... do you hear it from other fans besides the ones at home? do a test.. or rather... take your fan to someones house and try to hear it... if you do.... i would have to say its in your head. hard to believe ceiling fans.. my GUESS is that your brain is taking the white noise and molding it into words etc... funny thing is... even if it is in your head i bet the words and sound is accually there in reality, among other noise, and your brain just singles this out. kinda like how if you completely covered the floor of your room with 1" rocks... to most people it would just be a bunch of rocks,,, but you could easily see all kinds of cool designs that are really there. maybe its just how you are... i think that would be pretty cool.. im mean.. its not like your seeing pink elephants lol if you do tests, and you can hear it in fans at other places... and it then seems obvious that it is just you... please acknowlegde that your brain just so happens to pick out just the sounds that have meaning to you.. dont sit there and think its transmitting stuff.. thats way more crazy.. if you can admit it and be ok with it as being a cool thing... then you really arent crazy... your only crazy if it turns out to be in your head and you keep trying to formulate ways your fan is transmitting things to you. that would be a delution..
if your tests conclude that it is just you... then you have a interesting way to see into your subconcious. stay up for 2 days once... if it is in your head thatt'll make it "worse"... thats a good test too. and dont take medications if this is all it is... not a big deal. not worth seeing a psychiatrist and getting all drugged up over.

I am SOOOOO glad I'm not the only one. This time of year I run the fan all night long next to my head and I hear DJ chatter or music clearly, but very faintly, but it's undeniable from a radio station and some times even start to sing along if I know the tune. Music stops when I turn off the fan. I thought I was crazy

I believe this is the motor acting as the receiver and the fan is the speaker. I heard a golf match and chris webber name clearly yesterday. I understand I was worried about being nuts too. I have very good hearing and I believe only people with exceptional hearing can hear these sounds. Good luck to all who can hear radio stations on fans.

I am thrilled at what I am reading. I also hear "radio banter" and music, with commercials. I first heard this phenomenon last year, very late at night when there was no other noise. I was half-asleep thinking I hear it, but I am not sure if I was imagining it. It does not happen often. The last time I heard it was several months ago, again late at night, no other noise just the oscillating fan. What was the strangest thing though, was the dialogue between the people/d.j. s, it was repetitive. To me it sounded as if they were repeating their words, laughter, pauses, and the way they would annunciate.I do not hear complete songs either. I hear music, but not anything I am familiar with. I don t know. That s what I hear.

Nobody is going crazy, you might of heard of a crystal radio set, you don't need many components to be able to hear radio broadcasts. The crystal set it made up of copper coils and platted potentiometers, bit like the coils inside the fan.
If you took the outer protective cover off the fan this reduces the noise of the fan and you'll notice the radio signal sounds become clearer. WARNING I am not suggesting you should remove the out protective cove as this could be DANGEROUS.

I haven't heard of a fan causing you to hear music when you have nothing playing it. However, some people pick up radio stations from the fillings in their teeth.

It has happened to me too. I am receiving "New Jersey 101.5" over my fan. I don't much care for the station. But-you are not crazy. For SOME reason....it happens.
