I have had some pretty bad lower back pain for two days and some lower abdominal cramping for the past few hours. I have ha no bleeding but the back pain is getting really bad. I'm only about 6 weeks pregnant. I'm worried but don't want to be a hypocondriac. Is this normal? I mean this back pain is ridiculous! If this is normal to feel like this how long does it last?

I would check with your doc - but I had incredibly bad back pain when I was pregnant at about 8 weeks - they told me there was nothing wrong with the baby (after ultrasound) and the preg hormone that softens ligaments (relaxin I believe) started early and that I pulled a muscle because of that. I seriously couldn't sit down and do my day job for about 2 weeks... I could only sit for about 20 mins at a time so I had to work from home.

Cramping can be perfectly normal that early - its the uterus growing basically. I actually got cramps every time I had to pee - weird sensation and no one could explain it, but I always knew what it was at least :)

Just try and relax and stay off your feet if possible and watch for bleeding. The ER will not do anything for you. Quite honstly - and this may sound morbid - if you are losing the baby there is absolutely nothing the ER could do. About 1/4 of pregnancies end in the 1st trimester through no fault of the mom - it just means it wasn't meant to be.

Now even though ER can't do anything - if you start to hemmorage - that would be when you would go to teh ER - meaning if you bleed through 1 pad in an hour or less.

I'd still check with the doc but some docs won't even see you until 8-10 weeks but depending on your symptoms they may. And quite a lot of OBs will see you just to ease your mind.

This will just be the beginning of being a hypocondriac :).. you've got 9 months of woondering if something is wrong left....I wish i could say it gets better but nope... you just learn to know what signs mean what....

Good luck and I hope everything is ok.

Im 11 weeks 2 days, and have the exact same thing. Nothing to worry about, it is the uterus stretching to accomodate the baby. I get lower back pain all the time, and it sucks. But just try and stay off your feet when this happens. I went to the Dr. and had my ultrasound and all was well. So we are in the same boat. Mild cramping and lower back pain is all normal. Good Luck with everything.

You should check this Sciatica Natural Treatment
http://cure-sciatica.info

Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica. Try a reputable chiropractor ASAP!

Usually really bad back pain doesn't happen until later in pregnancy, mild cramping is normal all throughout pregnancy because the uterus s stretching. If you think you can wait until tomorrow then you can call your doctor to see if they think you need to be seen but if the pain gets worse or if any blood accompanies this pain you are having, I would go to the ER.

I don't know if it's normal or not, but I'm about 5 weeks pregnant and I have been getting some pretty bad back pains and cramping myself. I've heard that it's normal (?) but I know this didn't happen with my first pregnancy. If your really concerned you should call your OBGYN.

The back pain is probably unrealted. Abdominal cramping like youre starting your period is normal during the first part of pregnancy.

You might want to call your doctor just to let him/her know that you have back pain.

If its just pain and not cramping in your back its probably fine.

Definitely haul butt to the ER if you start to have discharge with any color in it. But i would call until then.

I would listen to everyone and go to a doctor. That's what I felt like when I miscarried. I had cramping for a whole week before I bled. Had my hormone levels been checked, they might have been able to do something! GO! NOW!

Sweety....2 letters. E.R.
that early in a pregnacy, you cannot afford to take chances!
My daughter is 8 weeks and I would want her to do the same.
If for some reason you aren't able to get to ER, try lying on your left side and drinking orange juice.
