Its last pass through the inner solar system was in 1986; won't be back until 2062. However, a number of telescopic observations have been made since then. The last one that I could find was by the ESO's VLT telescopes in 2003, at a distance of over 28 AU. They used three 8.2 meter telescopes to detect it.
