Children are sponges regarding receiving new information, they absorb so much more that an adults. This is because they have a natural thirst for knowledge which is greater in the developing mind. Swearing in the presence of children is like giving a child a sweet and asking them NOT to eat it. They're going to try and imitate the sounds of certain swear words until their progressive speech development has matured.
Children are more influenced by parental models from 18 months to 3 years old. This is the most 'crucial stage' in a child's development, any discrepancies that occur in a child's life between this age bracket can have long term psychological damage to the child's future.

Yes, I think children can imitate verbal abuse and aggression, but not in every case. To believe that would victimize the children further.

The child sees this in the parents, and they are not setting limits or boundaries.

This can teach the child in a wrong way, that having respect for others is not nessasary.

The tendancy for aggression could also come from the outside world, and not the parents. Or from the person's thougt patterns themselves.

Verbal abuse IS a form of aggression. Abused children grow into abusive adults unless the cycle of abuse is broken early.
