I don't buy the thing about pollution and such - too California-like, as most would agree. Environmentally, though, it could be anything outside one's person. Spiritually, emotionally, physically, intellectually, socially... all these can advance/retard one's genetic potential. But how is one's genetic potential determined? One cannot state that, since Einstein had 3 boys, all 3 boys will have IQs similar to his (unsure as to how many boys he had... just an example - calm down). Everybody, including those 3 boys of Einstein's, reacts and interacts with environmental stimuli at varied rates. I don't think one could pinpoint exactly which environmental factor(s) led to another person's "full" genetic potential. You cannot physically or distinctly measure a person's genetic potential... there are way too many variables for which scientists/researchers would have to account. You MIGHT could look at someone's familial history and, provided the same/similar social/environmental stimuli are present, form a general idea toward the outcome... but it would not be - and never will be - exact.

Well, if they are an otherwise health person, but choose not to live up to there potential ( no exercise, no careful eating, etc.)

A person not believing in themselves, or having positive beliefs outside of themselves, can do this.

Hanging with negative people, listening to glum self talk, not motivating themselves.

Also, environmentally, eating wrong foods, drinking polluted water, polluted air, etc.

But I think we are more of an environmental factor to ourselves. We are the environment we live in!
