Thanks for your question...it reminded me of my favorite Greek mythology story. Prometheus and his brother Epimethius where brothers who as children often created little figurines made of clay to play "war." Athena (a Greek Goddess) took all of the figures and breathed life into them. Therefore, in mythology, Prometheus is credited with creating life.

In the book Frankenstein a man is created. So, obviously the parallel is that the two created life. Thos parallel is a bit of a stretch if you ask me because in the book by Shelley the creature is a freak and is uncontrollable. To me, this is very different than creating life for all of humankind.
Thanks for your query.

Frankenstein is the doctor, not the creature, first off.

Prometheus is fabled to have given the gift of fire to Mankind, an momentous event which forever changed Mankind.

Frankenstein gave the gift of immortality, so to speak, through his experiments, something which would change Mankind forever as well.

Both called down these gifts from the heavens, also.

BTW The Frankenstein creature wasn't a monster, as most people refer to him. A monster is a being who has neither a soul or a conscience, and he had a conscience if not a soul. Pinocchio, on the other hand, had neither and was given the cricket to act as his conscience. In the original tale (not the glossed up Disney one) shortly after he was given the cricket he proceeded to smash it dead under his foot. Pinocchio was a monster by definition.

First, Frankenstein was the name of the doctor who sought to reanimate a corpse. The Corpse was called "Frankenstein's Monster", at least in the movie versions of the novel.

Prometheus was a well-meaning Greek deity who gave fire to mankind, with the usual disasterous results.

Dr. Frankenstein was a genius doctor, also well meaning, gave life to a corpse, also with disasterous results.

Google the words Dr. Frankenstein, novel, synopsis and I bet you will find out a lot more.

Because Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to man, and the author was making a comparison in that Victor Frankenstein was stealing the gift of life from the gods or god to give to mankind.
