Poker is an incredibly popular game. In any given evening there are probably tens of thousands of card games going on across America. The main thing to consider is that the stakes are low, no rake or 'house' money is collected, and that it really is just you and your friends. If the stakes get too high (say $5/$10 NL or $500+ tournament), it attracts attention. If you take a rake or buy in fee, you are definately on the wrong side of the law. And if you let strangers into the game, you are heading in the wrong direction, especially if you are charging some kind of entry fee or rake. But if it is just a low stakes bit of fun with friends, no one is going to arrest anyone.
