dog food does not provide the right nutrients for a ferret. We have three ferrets and we feed them a mixture of cat food and ferret food.
This comes from an article at this site
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=11&cat=1296&articleid=498
Ferrets fed only dog food will eventually die of malnutrition. Obligate carnivores have special requirements for several nutrients missing from commercial dog foods. In addition, ferrets are unable to digest the high levels of carbohydrate in dog food. They need to get most of their calories from simple carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Ferrets have such a short intestinal tract they can't eat very much at a time, and therefore need a concentrated diet. They should get most of the calories in their diet from fat, the most concentrated source of energy.

I had 2 Ferrets, 1 named Co Co loved potatoes, the other 1 named Sadie loved raisins she also eat cat food. Try all kinds of things. But I do not think you are supposed to give them milk.

Dude, all of my siblings, (and even me) ate dog food at one time (I was a 2 year old gimme a break, people!) or another. I'm not dead. Dog food is fine. The only thing wrong with it is the flavorless taste(just a joke, Sheesh.). You ferret is perfectly fine.

listen to jodie!!! DOG FOOD BADDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but if she won't eat ferret food (it is better for them than cat food) sweeten it with a little of marshalls furovite my little girl loves it straight from the tube but when she wakes up there is always some in her bowl in the mornings. oh and another thing not all ferret foods are good for them make sure the one of the first 2 ingredients are Chicken or chicken by-product organs only.and they have a minimum of 38% crude protein; 18% crude fat, a max of 4% crude fiber. check out marshallpet.com they have a comparison chart of different brand name ferret food. i go with the marshall brand but that is my preferance.

not really, i mean an occasional snack on it wont hurt it, but regularly try to feed it food its supposed to have, not dog food- for nutritional reasons.
