It doesn't make any sense. you say it all the time. I just have this problem with, for example, when someone says "what color was he?" and you have to say he's black, and everyone gets offended, like it didn't come out of your mouth correctly. What are you supposed to say? And why do black people still blame white people for their family history? We didn't do it. We are not responsible for what our ancestors did. Any BTW, if you think I'm racist, I'm not, but the more rude comments I get from black people, the more I'm seeing a pattern. Not that white people aren't rude, just black people get pissed if you talk about racial differences, and then get on stage and make jokes about white people, and we think it's funny.

Oh, and don't worry, I already know this is a rude question, you don't have to remind me.

trust me, I'm angry with my ancestors for what they did. I don't feel the need to apologize for it, however. I've never owned a slave in my life. I'm not to blame, the ones who are to blame are dead and long gone, so why still be mad? if you are black, have you ever been a white person's slave? I think not! so why be mad?

well dear you have not bear the burnt of racial discrimination so you will never know......

see using black is seen as a abusive word like you don't use the word old dying fellow for a sick old person though it is true...

u can have other example like you don't call a handicap as one legged man...

being black is by no mean a handicap but years of racial discrimination and cultural divide made it feel so...

had Africa be industrialized before and Europe was made a AFRICAN colonies then things would have been different and you would feel offended if i call you a white chick which you obviously are

Haven't you read your history. This is not a color coded world we live in. However our ancestors were a product of that form of controversy. We are in a new day and age and would appreciate it if the world could become unified. Whites are referred to as Caucasian and Blacks are African American, if the person has some knowledge. But you have ignorant people everyday in this life that makes the wrong statement and if it's offensive to someone they have the right to defend themselves. Although I don't see the word "black" as offensive like the word "ni**a". The talk shows referred to people as white or black with no problem to the ones sitting in the audience or on the stage. You should take some time and read up on African American History and gather some information and be able to answer this question on your own...

Well first of all I'm black, rather than African-American. I wasn't born in Africa. I don't get mad when ppl call me black. You are probably saying it wrong. Don't use 'black' if you are using phrases like "get your black azzes to work" or "how's your black a$$ doing today?" Also it's not polite to go to work and ask "How's all my ****@s doing today?" That is if you are white. It's okay to say black as long as it is used in the right context. Also as far as white family history, well you know things were really ugly here in America for about 300-400 years. I'm still dissappointed with some whites but a few have gone out of their way to apologize. Last week I got a great apology from a white friend. She was talented. I really appreciate such an apology. It was to completion. If you want to apologize for your ancestor's history, try finding a decent looking black man and give him some 'quiet time.' YOu need not say anything, just use your mouth in a different way. I notice a lot of white women a turning to black men as a way to apologize for that ugly historical moment. I like mouthy apologies, I just hate when they burn me! Lawd why didn't I use a condom!

As far as the one's that get offended... I think it's instilled in them at a young age about the struggles and hatred that "blacks" had to deal with for years... to the point of resenting whites. this paints a false picture that all whites are the same and we all hate blacks. I am part native American and my ancestors have endured alot of suffering... I don't get offended when people say "indian". I think those that get offended have a chip on their shoulder. Too bad they can't see that the world is a different place today.

This is assuming all black people get mad if you call them black, which I doubt.

For any that do get upset by the word "black", I wonder what you are supposed to say? "African-American" seems odd to me, since whites in the US are never referred to as European-Americans, and most blacks in the US were born here and it makes no sense at all to call them "African". It's just a psychotic attitudinal dysfunction if you ask me. There is so much screwed up when it comes to special preferences for minorities and "affirmative action" prejudice that the sheer stupidity of it is mind boggling. I think that black people who object to being called black may have prejudicial complexes and might be closet racists themselves.

Do a poll. Walk up to 50 black people and ask them what they would prefer someone call them. Black? *****? ("*****" is so 1950s -1960s) The results might be interesting. You would probably find some who would be offended at that question too, as though the subject is too sensitive to even talk about. But you might find that most of them don't really care one way or the other. If a black person called me a "honky" or a "cracker" it wouldn't really bother me a bit. I've got a lot of other more important things to worry about. Semantics is the least of it.

I've saw black women stare sometimes. Hell, everyone does. But that doesn't mean they are jealous, racist, or disapprove! The only rude, disrepecful, and racist remakes and tactics I have gotten have been from black men. They give us a look of disgust or laugh and say something really nasty like, "he anit f**ing her pu**y right". Or, "His d**k too small for that a**". And they'll even come up too me and try to hit on me infront my bf just to get an reaction out of him. It's ridiculous! And whats even more ignorant is some of these nasty comments and mean glares come from black men who would date a white girl in a heartbeat! Can someboy spell the word, Hypocrisy???

We don't get mad when you say black. And we all don't blame white people for our family problems. I personally like talking about race and racial differences. I know I'm black and I don't mind that people say it. I'm from the South and I hear it all the time, from people at work, my non-black family, and my white boyfiend :-P

Oh, and don't worry, your question in itself wasn't rude, you just asked it in a totally idiotic way. So please do all of us a favor and think before you just start ranting things that are mostly untrue.

African American is the "PC" term.
ask what nationality or race not color..
there are many countries in Africa too.
Caucasians are English or German or Lithuanian for example not "white.".
in some places black is a common term OK to use.. and in familiar company.
you don't seem to have the familiarity with your audience
or be in the right place for that.
seems you have several issues..
whats OK for comedy, often bad comedy, is NOT OK on the street, in school or other places..
try to be nice ...not be rude...
its a good sign that you did ask!
