No it's not uncommon for parents to value an object/person/animal over their own child(ren). Some women have post-partum depression and require medical attention. Some Parents are just selfish.

I just read some of the other answers, WTF does muslims have to do with this question? Am I missing something, or are people in the west that obsessed with demonizing muslims?

It may not be the most common thing, but that happens. But if it's a dog you are paying attention to, that is not as bad as paying more attention computer games or interned, I say. But some people do that.
Anyway, for some people, pet is like a member of family, so it happens.
But your friend has to pay good attention to the child or he/she will be so jealous. And that's no good.

Your best friend is selfish. We are put on this Earth to multiply. That means have children. Then we are suppose to love those children. Animals are put here for food and so that we kill them and make clothes, shoes, etc. America just hasn't came up with a gourmet recipe for the common dog. Please don't get to close to your pooch. I'm studying ways of frying domestic animals. How about barbeque cat with baked beans?

Your best friend is either selfish or has serious mental health issues,she would have carried her kid and given birth so that 2 me would be more important than a dog,does she realise what she is doing?her poor child deserves better.

Its very strange I know that, how can you ignore you kids and pay more attention to your dog, I think she needs someone to explain to her that a child should be her main priority as much as she loves her dog.
