The herpes simplex virus
See a doctor, they can get you a prescription so you have fewer breakouts.
Once you have herpes there is no cure, however there are things you can do to have fewer breakouts, many of which are environmental, habitual, and dietary. Talk with a doctor for a specific do's and don't's.

Cold sores are caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus. Once the virus is in your system, it is there to stay, there is no cure. That is the bad news, the good news is that there are things you can do to prevent cold sores from forming.
Throw out your old toothbrush, chapstick etc. Anything that has contacted your mouth. When you wash glasses make sure to use hot soapy water.
There is a compound in nuts and beans that encourages the virus to be active. If you feel that aweful tingly feeling that means a sore is coming on, quit eating anything that is made with beans or nuts, this includes things like chocolate and coffee. If you are having constant breakouts you might want to cut these out of your diet entirely until things calm down.
L-Lysine inhibits the activity of the virus. You can get it at most places that carry vitamins and supplements. (healthfood store, walmart etc) Again, as soon as you feel one coming on, start taking it. If you have constant breakouts, take it daily. I have never heard of a bad reaction to this but it is always good to be careful and check with a doctor if you have any questions.
Take care of your lips. Don't let them get too dry or cracked, don't bite them. Be careful with very hot and very cold things.
I used to get cold sores, since I started doing the things listed above I haven;t had an outbreak. It's been about 8 years.
Your doctor can also prescribe medication to help control the out breaks.
Good luck.

Cold sores are actually caused by the herpes simplex virus or they could be cause by a chemical reaction to something you ate. Since you are getting them so often, call your doctor and get a prescription. But until then, go to the pharmacy and get Herpacine or Abbreva, it's a cold sore medicine that will help dry them up faster and ease the pain. Don't lick your lips or rub them. If you have children, don't kiss them or anyone else, you can spread them that way. And aways wash your hands thoroughly after you apply medicine or touch them.

ur having outbreaks due to herpes simplex virus type 1-and it is induced by stress, UV light, so being in the sun without a chapstick that provides protection may initiate problems-and certain foods will trigger the outbreak too-such as cashews, walnuts, peas, coffee...you might want to avoid them for awhile or around times of stress, if you are a student and studying for an exam let's say-just avoid those products for a week or so-and you might find some relief with Herpecin-use that daily coz it is a chapstick with spf coverage of 30 so that should help prevent the sun from damaging your dna which is why our immune system weakens and that is another reason why a breakout occurs too! you can also buy lysine supplements and take a tablet 500 mg daily to strengthen your immune system-and take a multivitamin that has zinc and vitamin A and B 50-actually a B 50 complex or stress complex will help prevent these frequent outbreaks too-usually the cold climate or transition of summer to winter can also be a factor-i hope that this helps!

Many things cause cold sores, such as stress, extreme heat or cold weather, and if your immune is low. There are over the counter medications and prescriptions from your doctor. But if your getting them frequently it may be something else. I would go to a doctor since you have had several outbreaks in only 2 months.

I am glad you asked this, and lucky for you I have the answer! :-) Cold sores are generally caused by a chemical reaction in your body that is then secreted from the pores onto the upper dermis of the skin. This secretion causes an irritation and thus turns into a sore. STAY AWAY FROM FOODS CAUSING THE CHEMICAL REACTION AND YOU WILL ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM. **HINT** use preparation H on the sore and it will NEVER RETURN!! :-)

a cold sore is a form of herpes. and herpes is a strain of pox. if you get immunized for small pox it should fix the problem from future occurances but it takes about a month for the small pox immunizationa to heal.

Do u want the scientific explaination? It's a virus. Not serious duh. But you might want to buy some cream or lip balm to help it or even see a doctor if you really think it's serious enough.

it is just a virus, have you been chewing on, sucking on or licking your top lip, sometimes that brings one on. Just use carmex, cost 99 cents and wait for them to go away
