in this problem 6x-4(2x+1)=12 .. would x = negative 6 ?

6x-4(2x+1)=12
6x-8x-4=12
-2x = 16
x = 16/-2
= 8/-1
= -8
x = negative 8

Hi, 6x-4(2x+1) becomes 6x - 8x - 4 or -2x - 4 = 12

add 4 to both sides and you have -2x = 16

divide both by -2 and you get x = -8
