I'm planning to import product from other country. Do i need to get a license custom broker to process the release of my shipments? Can't I do it myself? Because back in Asia where i came from i do it myself process all the paperwork for the release of my goods. Here in California do we really need to get a custom broker?

You do not need a customs broker to clear your products through customs, but it can be very helpful. Depending on the nature of your item, you may need to filepaperwork with agencies other than Customs, which a broker will know about, but you may not be aware of. In addition, a customs broker can often get things done much quicker than you can as they have the advantage of dealing with Customs full time.

Jen,

Here is a resource for you:

Clearing Customs on your own is ok until you have a problem with a shipment. A reputable customs broker can sail right through inspections and examinations and get your shipment cleared.

You can probably do it yourself....Get friendly with the Customs Dept and I'm sure they'll guide you through the process.

Good luck.
