There is nothing 100% guaranteed as hackers are always one step ahead of Antivirus simply because the virus has to exist for antivirus programmers to make a patch for it. A great way to achieve the maximum protection is to get an antivirus program(I use AVG, it's free) and at least TWO antispyware programs (I use Adaware SE and Spybot search and destroy) And get a sandbox program for your browser(I use sandboxie) Use Mozilla Firefox as your default browser and configure the security settings to only recieve cookies for the originating web site and also to dump them when you close Firefox and to also clear all personal information when you close firefox, I leave saved passwords. Update your antivirus and antispyware programs daily, even if you think there will be no updates today, do it anyway because you never know. Have you got the yahoo toolbar? If not then maybe you should and activate the pop up blocker. Now sometimes when you click a link on a page the pop up blocker will block it, only if you are expecting a page to pop up and it doesn't is it reasonably safe to click the blast picture where the pop up blocker is and go to that page otherwise it is probably one of those pop ups that are annoying you. Oh yes clear your cookies now. Right click START and left click EXPLORE and a menu will pop up, you will see cookies left click it and delete all but the index.

AVG has a freeware version, that facilitates you to test, and get rid of viruses for loose. It Has a toolbar it rather is a pop-up blocker, pop-up blocker, and a software stated as seek-shield. seek shield will test hyperlinks you get from seek engines, like google and yahoo. And inform you what hyperlinks have viruses and what hyperlinks are risk-free.

Pop-up blockers don't kill viruses. They stop ads from popping up on your page. I would use Yahoo Toolbar it has a good one:

Yahoo Toolbar:
http://toolbar.yahoo.com/

Then:

Try these. They work and they are free:

Run the tool and then download the free spyware and virus protection programs:

Malicious virus removal tool:

Ad-Aware Free download:

AVG Download free

Try ZoneAlarm Pro version 6.5 or higher. They offer a fantastic pop-up blocker, anti-spyware and anti-virus monitoring all in one.
