Well, the tundra is found mainly in the arctic regions of the world, however it is also found in the surroundings of Antarctica (it's just that there is less land in the Southern hemisphere so we don't see it as much). It is a barren land; one which is equivalent to a desert, but only with extreme cold instead of heat. It thus has different plants and animals. It is colder than a desert because of the unequal heating of the Earth's surface (deserts mainly get sun at a 30 degree angle while the tundra gets sun at an angle anywhere between 45 and 70 degrees) therefore the intensity of the sun's rays are less intense.
The tundra is usually barren; it is very rocky and windy, and there is very little soil. It is difficult to build anything in the tundra due to the permafrost; a layer of permanent ice which goes deep into the ground. At first glance it looks like nothing could live in a place such as the tundra, but if you ever come up to the north you'll be surprised at the amount of wildlife (buffalo, bears, caribou, hares, fox, voals, and so on). Also, there is a lot of vegetation, however their growing season is short and slow so you'll never see a plant that is taller than a human.
