This is a great question. It has nothing to do with evolution (and I'm not saying that I don't believe in evolution). It's not really a religious question either. It's a philosophical question.
With what we know, we would call this question a 'chicken-and-egg' problem. Basically, how can you have one without the other? Trouble is that there is no starting point to circular reasoning. You're caught in a loop.
I think the answer is that the creator has to exist in a way that is exempt from the rules of this universe that we take for granted. Somewhere along the line we made the assumption that the law of chicken & egg must apply to the creator. Except the rules implied by the concept of creator & createe, can't possibly be applicible without falling into the chicken & egg paradox. Maybe the creator & createe frame is wrong or somehow misleading.
Imagine you created a 2-dimensional world, and the people in that world tried to imagine a 3rd dimension. They could develop the math for it, but they would have trouble picturing the 3rd dimension because they would try to construct it based on 2-D reasoning. You see, you have to break-out of that frame of thinking, and think outside the box (no pun intended).
Anyway, I'm not saying I have the answer, but at least I _get_ the question, and I know enough to know it's a great question (and I'm not just kissingbutt. I could give a hoot about yahoo points rightnow.)
Sometimes when people are close to truth, they are speechless, so maybe great questions are, in a sense, retorical.

This is just a dodge to the question of how you get something from nothing from religious people and it's not all that brilliant. Prior to the birth of Christ, God was defined as infinite and eternal.
Science offers no proof one way or the other as to the existence of God. Science only tries to determine how things happened and happen.
"I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts; the rest are details." - Albert Einstein

Good question. The truth is, there was no god and is no god. We were created by evolution

God would have had to be created... Just a figment of our imaginations, he WAS created, by us.
