Ask your pharmacist for "acid mantle cream"---it's used as a base for some prescriptions, BUT you should not need a script for just the base. They might have to special-order it but should be able to get it in a day or two.
My sister-in-law is a neonatal intensive-care RN, and they're ALWAYS washing up...she got us turned onto this stuff, and it's fantastic! My dad used to have cracked bleeding hands (he was a printing pressman), and this was the only thing that worked. Not oily and greasy, and a little goes a long way (so don't panic if the initial price seems high---perhaps $30 for a pound jar, but that will last easily a year, and it's great on everything).

I have the same problem - especially in the winter months. What I do is to apply a good lotion (I like Aveda Hand Therapy) Put on some of those Heavy duty rubber gloves like Playtex and do the dishes. The heat of the hot water helps the lotion soak in more.
You can also try getting one of the more inexpensive Parifan Baths. Apply lotion and then dip your hands in the hot wax. Leave the wax on until it cools off. Again, the heat helps the lotion soak in to your skin.
Another trick that works is to apply regular Vaseline to your hands and sleep with white cotton socks on your hands.
Good luck.

Your best bet is to by some bag balm.. Yes it is made for cows utters, but believe me it works.. You put a bunch on before bed( take off your rings) Then put your hands in socks and go to sleep when you wake up in the moring it will be very greasy, wash hands with a mild cleanser and put on some lotion, i usto do this once a week it is the best. A farmer told me about it. They use on cows in the winter if they get chapped... so if it works for them.. just imagine what it will do for you.. Other wise something that smells good for daytime use is burts bees almond hand creme.

Get a hot wax bath, then put lotion on your hands, but don't rub it all the way in. Then place your hands in the hot wax for about 10-15 seconds. Remove your hands and let air dry. The wax will harden and then you just peel off the wax and your hands will be soft and smooth.

I hear that a parafin wax really helps dry hands...Unfortunately I've never tried it, but I'd like to one day. There's something called Cow's Utter Butter (or something like that) sold at one of the Bath and Body stores thats also really good, but it's a little greasy for me, but might be worth a try?

Try using a hand lotion made especially for extremely dry skin, and then put gloves on. It should keep your hands moisturized.

I have this problem not only on my hands but on the rest of my body as well. I use Mary Kay Products: Satin Hands. Works well and leaves your hands feeling soft and supple until the next washing.

Try Eucerin Cream. When i lived in Colorado my hands were
always dry, My Doctor told me to get this cream, and it really
helped me. You will find it by the Pharmacy. I believe it cost
around $10.00. Hope this works for you.
