AFter a round of golf my husband's very expensive polo shirts are ruined because his sweat removes the dye from the shirt in unsighlty patches. Any suggestions why and how to either prevent this from happening or restore his shirts?

Take them back to the store. A respectable clothing store would be happy to replace them for you.

I don't think sweat is the culprit. It could be the deodorant he's using, or if the shirts are made of silk, that material stains very easily. Maybe he needs to use a strong antiperspirant instead of just a deodorant. Otherwise, there are shields that protect from sweat or deodorant stains, but I'm not really sure they're made for men, or if men would even use them.

Body acids are probably the culprit here. Try soaking (for about 15 mins.) your husbands shirts in vinegar or salt (but not both at the same time.) before he wears them the first time. This will help to set the color in the fabric better than the manufacturer did. See if this helps.

It may also be due to the deoderant/anti-perspirant that he wears. See if changing it helps.
