I've had insomnia and night terrors for the past 2 to 3 years. the longest I've been awake (which wound me up in the er) was 11 or 12 days.
i was on seroquel for this along with ambien. However the dr's took me off the ambien due to SCARY side affects. I'm now 6 weeks pregnant. And I stopped taking the medication because I dont want it to harm my baby.
heres the thing. I've only gotten say maybe 10-15 hours of sleep PERIOD for the past week or so. And I have a 15 month old running around as it is.
And dont say ask your dr. because i have my first prenatal on thursday and I plan on asking her. My question is, does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do in the meantime? do you use any methods that actually help?
thanks SOOO much in advanced!
-a very tired mama!

yes my 15 month old is mine, shes my angel. Shes very good about if im sitting back on the couch coming over and cuddling with me (lord knows it helps). My insomnia actually worsened after having her. When I was preggo with her i was able to get much more sleep than i do now... and ive cut down to just one cup of coffee a day now that im preggers.

Yikes. Sorry to hear you are so sleep deprived. I wouldn't suggest any over-the-counter chemicals. I don't care who says it's safe, poison is *NEVER* good for an unborn baby (or one who's been born for that matter!). If I were you, I would cut out the coffee altogether. I would take a serious look at my diet. If your insurance covers it (or you can afford it) see a nutritionist...it mat be very helpful. There are some herbs that are helpful as well. I know valerian and kava both work well, but am not sure if they are safe during pregnancy. And finally, meditaion and yoga. Both are very helpful in helping the body regulate a normal sleep cycle/schedule. Best of luck to you.

Unfortunately I too have insomnia. That's y I'm on here at 12:30 at night and i've been up since 12:00 last night well I guess it would be morning wouldn't it. Anyways my eyes are all bugged out of my head and I look like a weirdo. I'm due in 10 days and I think I have alot on my mind. hopefully this doesn't continue for the next 10 days cuz once the baby is born I'm never gonna get sleep. Good Luck to all those out there who cannot sleep!

Well, being preg. (about 15 wks) and having a one year old myself, I dont know how you dont crash out, Lol, but I know this is serious for you, its just that I'm surprised that you're not really tired from the pregancy and all. Is the 15 month old your child? how did you do it when you were pregnant with him? Try taking a warm bath...and you know they say it is safe to have a glass of red wine, that will help, and then read a book, that will make your eyes so tired, maybe you'll just fall right to sleep, maybe not...I always read when I cant get to sleep, it usually works. I hope the preg. goes well for you! Good Luck!

Tylenol PM is supposed to be safe during pregnancy. To induce sleep, take herbs as a warm tea, or in tincture or capsule form, thirty minutes before bedtime. A common dosage is 1 cup of tea, 1/2-1 teaspoon of tincture, or two capsules.

Choose from among the following herbs, which are generally recognized as effective sleep inducers and relaxants:

valerian
passionflower
California poppy
hops

Do you exercise beyond what you do on a daily basis between house work and your kiddo? Is it your diet?

Its bizzar that you cant sleep at all. I'd have to say its some sort of severe chemical imbalance.

I know that you can take some over the counter sleep aids when pregnant, and doctors can perscribe some also. Just talk to your doctor.

My cousin had to take sleep aids clear through pregnancy, her baby turned out beautiful and healthy.

Good luck lady!

I had insomnia for the first couple months I was pregnant, but not to the extent that you described. I got through it by resting when I felt tired (not sleeping, just laying down). It's not as good as sleep, but at least it's rest... and there are medicines that your doc can give you while you're pregnant, I took them. Anyway, good luck with everything, especially with another little one running around. Hope it all works out for the best!

Only use your bedroom for sleeping don't eat a large meal before trying to sleep. I read for about an hour before I can get sleepy. Exercise in the morning I hope this helps a little but I'm sure you've heard this all before I really feel for you it has to be hard

I have a similar problem Iam 25 weeks pregnant and I asked my doctor they said over the counter sleep aids are pretty safe when not taken everyday and when you do take them take only one tablet instead of two. Also benadryll works if you dont have any you can use your childrens allergy reliever if they have some.

First off do not drink/eat anything that contains caffeine for atleast four hours before bed time. Drink alot of water during the day. When i was pregnant i would drink non caffeinated tea with honey. That helped me relax and sleep. I hope it works for you.

Try reading a book to relax nothing to intense. You could also try Aromatherapy to help calm and relax you enough to fall asleep. In a diffuser: 25 drops lavender oil, 10 drops orange oil, 8 drops German Chamomile oil, 8 drops marjoram oil, 6 drops ylang ylang oil.

Hope you have some success at falling asleep.
