What could be causeing this. If you push back the gear shift the reverse lights go off! It only does it in 5th gear!

i own a repair shop,and this is a common thing for the rangers to do after they get a few miles on them,it needs a new back up light switch on it,you can adjust it,but it will just do it again on you so id just replace it now and be done with it, i have see even the newer ones do this so you did good ,yours lasted a pretty long time on it,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Definitley need to adjust your reverse light switch.

sounds like you have a problem with the back up light switch. adjust it and it will be a solved problem. consult a chiltons if you do not wish to go to a mechanic.
