Yes, I have received a d before and its a passing grade. Fortunately my college takes the average of all courses, and I have some good marks in other subjects, I was able to graduate with a low B overall average.

Brian M is absolutely correct. In your core classes (history, freshman english, humanities and electives) a D is considered passing and will get you through the class, but once you get into upper level junior and senior level classes a C and sometimes a B are required in order to pass the class.

You should double check with your univeristy's catalog and major department. At the university that I work at, a "D" is considering passing as long as it's not a pre-req for another course that you need to get a C- or better AND as long as your overall GPA/major GPA is above a 2.0 (undergrad).
If you're a graduate student, most classes you have to get a C or better and maintain a 3.0 in your overall GPA and Major GPA.

for a general course, yes, but it is not considered sufficient for credit in your major. In some cases, you will be required to retake the course, and a C- average could get you tossed out. If your average falls below C in your major, you might be told to take a different major. B.

Yes, but you will have to retake it if you need it as a pre-requisite for another course.
