No, that president must still finish the term (from the original presidency) and run again in the next election if he / she wants to serve another term as President. If he/she gets elected however, then the President can run again in another 4 years.

a president can officially serve 10 years. this was put into the constitution for this exact reason which was done in the case of Ford taking over when Nixon resigned. After the term he took over if it was only 2 years or less he could then campaign and serve 2 more terms thus be in 10 years, but after that he cannot serve again.

The election will take place as usual. His taking the president's place has nothing to do with extending a term or terms. If The VP then runs for reelection, he could potentially serve 2 terms as president.

a person can serve a maximum of 10 years. if the president dies in his first year, the vice president will be elligible for one elected term. if the pres dies in year 3 (ie kennedy) the vp is elligible for 2 elected terms.

A President may only be in office for a total of ten years. Meaning, if he/she takes over at the end of the first year of the President, he/she may only run for one term after that.
If it is after the second year, he/she may run twice.

Yes they can. Pres Johnson completed Pres. Kennedy's term. He was then elected to his own 1st term. He was considering running for his second but because of the problems with Vietnam he opted to not run.

Only if the VP steps in with two years or less of the incomplete term. If Bush died NOW, and Cheney stepped in tomorrow, then Cheney could only run for one more term. But if Bush died this coming February 1, then Cheney could run twice.
