I think that every person's threshold for pain is different.
I have to confess that while the contractions were painful, I did not find them unbearable. I found they were like stong menstrual cramps.
I labored at home until 1/2 hour before my baby was born. No drugs, no epidural and I was fine. HOWEVER, that's me...as other ladies have pointed out, they found it extremely painful.
Each woman will tell you how it was for them.
When you begin contractions, you will soon find out how tolerate you are for pain!!
Good luck and congrats!

Like a pain you will never forget, no matter how long it's been! My epidural wore off the last 4 hrs of my labor, and the replacements didn't even work after that, so I had nothing, and a 9lb 10oz baby- ended up in c-section cause they didn't know how big he really was until birth. Anyways, during that 4 hrs, I thought I was going to die. It hurt so bad, I've never cried harder in my life. I was almost fully dilated, so I was so close, my baby was just too big. So I think that caused a lot more of my pains.... so I do suggest the epidural, and pray it doesn't wear off for anyone else!

Labor pains are very painful but...if you breathe correctly in between contractions they're bearable.

Peace,

Hope

do not let anybody tell you that they feel like period cramps, because they DO NOT!! i really thought i was going to die , it felt (and excuse my description, if this grosses you out then don't read it) like i had to take a big **** and i couldn't, i thought i just needed to go to the bathroom so i tried and then realized after maybe 10 minutes of sitting in front of the toilet that i probably needed to go to the hospital, whenever you do go into labor, ask for the epidural, that thing saved my life. i was so adament about natural labor but once i was in labor, i was screaming at everyone who i thought could hear me to give me drugs. well i hope this helps and sorry if i grossed anybody out; you'll get over it!!

Extremely painful for sure....however one of the pains you truely forget as soon as the baby's born. Just take one contraction at a time.....Good Luck!

They are pretty painful. It feels a menstrual cramp times 100. But I promise, it is nothing you can't handle. Do what I did and get the epidural if you're really scared :)

Oh it hurts, but it's a natural pain and your body was designed for it.
