He had failing eyesight and failing general health near the end of his life. Bach had cataracts, and was treated for them. He spent the very last part of his life in a dark room. One morning, he announced that he could see clearly again, and he died in the evening of that same day in July 1750.

you may be thinking of Ludwig Van Beethoven who became deaf before the end of his life and career.

I don't think it was either. Beethoven was deaf and Mozart went nuts. I don't remember hearing anything about Bach being deaf or blind. Sorry.
