You're not missing a thing. San Antonio IS a great place to live and raise a family, I moved here from NW Indiana and love it. Prices have actually risen at an alarming rate this past 12 months. Usually we've been getting 4-6% increase in value per year, but with all the investors buying up the houses, we got about 12 - 15% this past 12 months. It's slowed down some and the winter will probably be normal again. Do buy here to live here.

Don't listen to these people. San Antonio is on 35% annual increase. Which means what you said. It is a perfect place to buy. Tell them to laugh as your value doubles in couple years.

You're missing the fact that property taxes are astronomically high! I remember looking at a 2500 sq.ft. house just outside of Loop 1604 on a small lot that had annual taxes of over $5000. Never mind the homeowner's fees! We Texans are sick of being shafted on property tax! Gov. Perry and legislature: do something. We're making up our minds on the candidates now! Early voting has already begun.
