It's not. This is an original work based upon the book "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo which was, in turn, the basis for the films in the "Godfather" series. This is an entirely new tale, which has no connection to the movies aside from mention of the existing Corleone family.

I read an article about this once... the author to write "The Godfather Returns" (I never did hear about the exact title), or the fourth book, couldn't be Mario Puzo because he passed away. They actually selected from many authors a writer who they felt would continue Puzo's legacy. As far as I know, a movie is also planned... and I believe this book is actually a prequel to all the Godfather movies.
