Well seeing everyone above doesn't understand what the difference between hop hop and rap lets break it down since they are two totally different things.
Hip-Hop: The term hip hop (also spelled "hip-hop" or "hiphop") refers both to a musical (see hip hop music) and cultural genre or movement (hip hop culture) that was developed by African Americans and Latinos predominantly in urban communities over the last quarter-century.
Rap: used to describe the aggressive, mass-market produced music such as 50 cent , the game etc. Unlike hip hop, rap suffers from having no culture behind it at all.
Now that you have all been educated on the difference of the style, hip hop has mostly rooted underground. The only true mainstream hip hop artists are artists like De La Soul, Mos Def, Talib Kwelli, Common.
No one is killing hip hop, Rap is killing itself with severe repetitive lyrics as well as the originality to come up with there own material. Such rappers like the game who raps about 50 Cent non stop and so on. So that's my answear. Game, 50 Cent Is killing Rap not hip hop.

Money and corporate america is killing hip hop, people dont make music for the love of it they do it for the money and perks and that translates into bad music... Also these teeny bopper fans are killing the raw form of hip hop

Every Rap artist who is singing about their prostitutes and all that, and using way too much sexual references. Sure sex is great and all but its all about rapin' that girl or all that and i don't think people today are really into all that. I don't know if Rap and Hip Hop are really the same cause i am more into Classic Rock and Heavy Metal but i still try to respect others opinions...

Hip Hop isn't even Hip Hop anymore. Everybody rapping about how low their chains hang and their bling bling and their b*tches and H*es and booties and pimpin ain't easy.....the one's rapping about 20 inch rims and escalades....drugs and alcohol and senseless violence...those are the people that are killing hip hop......among other things.
