I am always looking for movies that involve thinking... if you miss 5 minutes, then you might be lost. Here are some examples of the movies I really like:

-Mulholland Drive
-Donnie Darko
-Dead Again
-Crash
-Sliding Doors
-Being John Malkovich
-Match Point
-The 6th Sense
-The Matrix (1st one only)
-Momento

This is a good cross-section of the movies I like... I really detest a majority of the big-screen shows released today, as they just seem to have such little substance. If you know of any other movies like the ones above, please let me know. I am always looking for movies that are good enough to talk about months later.

Please... no movies like "John Tucker Must Die" or "Stick It" or "Batman Forever"... while these are (perhaps) entertaining, they are very forgettable.

Thanks!

I think that if you really want to watch some movies that will make you think, considering watching some Bollywood movies. Many of their movies have dream scenes which are quite fascinating. Bombay has a much larger movie industry than Hollywood, producing over 1000 movies per year. These movies all have English subtitles. The cultural differences will definitely make you think.

One that I very much enjoyed was Fanaa, a 2006 release.
Also, you should see Naayagan,...it has some similarities with Godfather.

I also suggest that you see Ingrid Bergmar's films and Truffaut's - 400 Blows. Also...you should see

-The Little Thief (French)
-Water for Chocolat (Mexican movie)
-Marnie (Hitchcock)
-The Rope (Hitchcock)
-Babette's Feast
-the original Thomas Crown Affair and the newest one

Many of the ones you have listed are excellent choices, and, in fitting with your request, I highly recomend "The Prestige" directed by Christopher Nolan (director of Memento) as it has a wonderfully crafted plot and is amazingly well acted. It is also designed to keep you involved from the beginning, and always guessing.

I really liked Thomas Crown Affair. You don't necessarily have to hang on every word to understand the movie, but it does involve some sort of intellectual awareness. Plus it has an amazing plot! Enjoy, if you haven't already!

I agree with r's list. I think you would especially like the Prestige, since it is directed by Christopher Nolan, the same guy who made Inception and Memento.
