"Avoid laying a refrigerator on its side. The oil in the compressor can flow into the cooling lines when the refrigerator is tipped onto its side. When returned to an upright position, there is a risk that the oil will not completely drain from the cooling lines and the refrigerator will not cool."

Check with the manual or manufacturer. In addition to the other comments, there may be a bolt or two that should be tightened while transporting. If you have water and/or ice in the door, you need to empty the cold-water reservoir
I would not lay it down. In addition to the other problems, either the coils or the finish have a high chance of being damaged.
Besides, unless you're moving it in a station wagon, it takes up a lot more room laying down.
Go get some Styrofoam coolers, unpack it, and then move it.

If you lay a refrigerator down for transport, leave it upright for a minimum of 48 hrs before plugging it in. The oil in the compressor will migrate into the condenser coil and if it is not allowed to drain, you can get a slug of oil into the compressor cylinder and damage the compressor.

On the refrigerators that I have purchased and transported, the owners manual said not to transport the fridge laying down. It has to be transported in an upright position. Check your manual.... It's up to the manufacture.

You are not supposed to lay them down, because of the refridgerant that is in it. The only way to transport a fridge is standing upright.

It is alright to lay it down, but lay it down on the same side as the compressor is on. Wait a day or two before operating it to make sure the compressor is free of liquid before starting. This will avoid liquid slugging and possible ruining the compressor or prematurely damaging it. There are no air bubbles in the system. It is vacuumed free of air and noncondensables when it is made.

You can lay it down to transport. But you have to have it standing for about a day before you can use it. The coolant has to circulate & level out again.
