When you are 12 weeks pregnant. Your doctor will tell you which week you are in based on either if you know the first day of your last period or if you need an ultrasound to find out gestational age of baby. Misscarriages can happen at any time for any reason but pregnancies usually spontaneously miscarry before 12 weeks gestational age. Sometimes, you could even miscarry even if you aren't aware you are pregnant.

The baby isn't technically considered viable (able to live outside the womb) until 24 weeks. There are cases of women delivering at 23wks and a few days whose babies do make it with serious resuscitative effort and long term in a neonatal ICU. Sometimes the babies suffer learning disabilities or other long-term issues as a result. Miscarriages can happen at any point, depending on if it is a case of fetal demise (where the baby dies for whatever reason within the womb). But even if you rupture (break your water) earlier than 24 weeks, if the baby's heart tones are fine and your cervix is not progressing, doctors may just put you on bed rest and try to keep you from delivering for as long as possible, unless they think you are getting infected.

I had an ectopic pregnancy 6 years ago and the doc told me that as soon as I find out I'm preg again to schedule an US at 5 weeks to be sure it's not in the tubes. Might want to call another doc and explain your risks. I didn't know I was preg until I went in to the hospital with severe stomach pain to the point that Iwas doubled over. I couldn't walk or sit up and had the shakes. I was pretty far along because it had already ruptured my tube and I was bleeding internally. I had to have an emergency surgery to remove it. It's nothing to mess around with. They need to find it early so that it can be taken care of in pill form without a surgery.

You are at highest risk of pregnancy for the first 3 months (first trimester). However, know that more than half of these miscarriages are unpreventable. There is really nothing out of the ordinary taht yuo can do to keep yourself safer.

Typically the end of your 12th week signifies a lower risk of miscarriage. However, some have been known to miscarry later term then that.

Good Luck.

12th or 13th week...whenever you enter into your second trimester. However, there are still many miscarriages that occur after this point. The chances of it happening at this stage of your pregnancy is just dramatically lower than it was at the beginning.
