I am carving a pumpkin for a carving contest and i need something to keep it from rotting while it is on display...any ideas??? i thought maybe hairspray would do the trick...

Actually squirt lemon juice on the inside and raw parts of the pumkin(not the skin) it gives them a fresh smell and they stay fresh and won't rot.But only apply right before you are gonna display it!

I've heard the lemon juice trick before, and I've also heard about applying a thin layer of Vaseline. You can also store your pumpkin in the refrigerator until it's ready to display.
