I'm not sure but you put the equation so it equals to 0: 2x+4.36=0 and then subtract 4.36 on both sides and then divide by 2 leaving x = -2.18

We seem to be missing an equal sign. If its supposed to read 2x+4= 36, you begin by subtracting the 4 from both sides, so you get 2x = 32. Then divide 32 by 2 to get the value of one x, 32 divided by 2 is 16, so x = 16. If that is what you were getting at.

Do you mean
2x+4 =36 if you do subtract 4 from each side
2x+4-4=36-4 you get
2x=32 you then divide each side and get
2x/2=32/2 which gets you
x=16

2x+ 4.36=?
2x + 4.36= 0 [when the problem doesn't have an answer, it always equals to zero]
If you looking for X then:
2x + 4.36= 0
___-4.36__-4.36 [subtract 4.36 on both sides]
2x= -4.36
------------ [devide by 2 on both sides]
2____2
x= -2.18 <---Answer
To check your answer replace the x with -2.18
2(-2.18) + 4.36=0
-4.36 + 4.36=0
0=0 check
