I don't take any fish out of either of my ponds for the winter. As long as a pond is deeper than the frost-line, they go into something like a hibernation where they slow down their metabolisms and they stay at the bottom, usually under leaves, or sometimes even burrow in the mud.

Aaron is pretty much correct, they don’t migrate except to maybe a another end of a pond, lake, river stream, and lay or burry themselves under the mud and simple sleep it out, When they get up they will be skinnier and hungry, so be prepared to feed them well. Some can ever freeze and still be just fine after thawing out, after being in that state for months.

It depends on how deep the water is that they are in. Catfish are very hardy. if it is a deep pool they will probably go to the bottom below the freeze line of the water. I would say they would survive.

No they cant my dad has a 2000 gallon pond in the back yard and every winter we put the fish in a holding tank in the house.
They will die if you keep them out side in the winter my dad had to learn that the hard way.

They survive. They don't migrate. I hope you don't have it in a little pond so shallow it could freeze solid.
