Back in time the United States conducted nuclear bomb tests, always out in the desert, or somewhere in the middle of nowhere. North Korea isnt harming anyone, who has the right to sanction a sovereign country?

The problem w No. Korea having a weapon like this is that the threat they pose to their neighbors ( Japan and So. Korea) No. Korea is is a dictatorship government and dictator's are very unpredictable. If this dictator sells and delivers a weapon of this magnitude to countries like Egypt,Syria, the Taliban these people would use it to destroy most of the world. That's the problem.

Well aside from the safety of North Korea's neighboring nations who are vulnerable to a nuclear bomb, the US also wants to make sure that they are the only super power in the world and can't risk anyone to undermine it by conducting nuclear tests.

The fear of N Korea having Nuclear weapons is that they will sell that knowledge to terrorist or Iran. As for the right to sanction a sovereign country that would be the United Nations and if you've watched any news lately you'll allready know we have imposed sanctions against N Korea. The United Nations is also considering sanctions against Iran for there pursuit of Nuclear weapons. I do understand what your saying in reguards to nations being allowed to do as they please BUT, I think you would also agree its in teh best interest of the world to keep WMD's out of the hands of those who might use them to Blackmail or first strike weapons. Iran has stated Publicly that it wants to destroy Israel. If they get nukes they may attempt to follow through with that threat.

"but truth be told, their nuclear program is not what the news makes it out to be, they are about 50 years behind us in nuclear technology and the gap is widening, not shortening" I wouldn't even give them that much credit. Our very FIRST test, was 20 Kt in yield. Our Second and Third tests took out two Japanese Cities with a 15 and 20 Kt yield respectively. North Korea? First Test, Sub-kiloton... 0.6 Kt Second Test, 2 Kt yield Third Test, 2-6 Kt yield. Our average nuke today? is 475 Kt. with a few multi-MEGAton warheads for good measure. A Megaton is a 1000 Kilotons. Add to that, their "Nukes" are not weaponized. Not something designed to fit in a warhead to go on a missile. But something designed to be placed and detonated as a test. And their Missile of choice tends to blow up in flight more oft than not. UPDATE: The recent meteor over Russia detonated with the force of a 300 Kt explosion. Proving North Korea is dumber than even a space rock.

It is not the conducting of the test, it is the fact they have the bomb. The nuclear club is very exclusive and doesn't want new members. Also the fact that a raving lunatic has a nuke and a means to deliver it is very scary.

They are an impoverished nation led by a headcase that hates democracy. If they have nuclear technology, they can and likely WILL sell it to the highest bidder. That could be anyone, including multi-millionaire terrorist nations. You think a pipe bomb or a sneaker bomb is bad? Imagine a crazed terrorist walking into a skyscraper with a nuclear bomb attached to his asss. That's why we don't want them gaining nuclear technology.

True, N. Korea isn't harming anyone--yet. Kim has promised to target the West Coast of the US as soon as he has the capability. Hope you don't live in LA.

North Korea is run by a nut-case. Nut cases shouldn't play with nukes.
