nope. But I think most teachers live at least a half an hour away from the school where they teach.

Teachers can live in the same district that they teach in. I actually had a student stop by my apartment one day to tell me I left the lights on in my car so sometimes it can be a good thing. Another time I saw a student (who was in pre-k) in a bar with his mom.... not such a good thing..... Now I live about an hour away which is cool because I don't have to worry about running into parents or students when I am dressed like a slob grocery shopping!

Every district sets its own rules, but it's more likely that the opposite would be true--that teachers would be required to live in the same district where they work.
The teachers themselves may choose not to go to local malls or stores because they don't want to run into kids "off the job". Many teachers, however, are very active in all aspects of their communities, the same communities where they work.

No, thats fine. I live in the same district as I teach. Its great running into your kids at the mall and movies. Makes them realize that you are just a person too :)

Most schools don't care where you live. I live 45 minutes away from the school I teach at (and hate the drive every day) The only residency rule that I know of is that some schools stipulate that coachs and principals have to live in the county that the school district is in.

Where did you hear that?!?! Thats crazy!! Of course teachers can live in the same district where they teach. Two teachers from my school live in my neighborhood, and yes I do see them shopping, but there's nothing wrong with that (Its a little weird though).

Teachers can live wherever they want to. Some of them have long commutes to go to their schools.
Anyway, lots of teachers change of schools or districts during their careers so they can live and work in different places.
By the way, when teacher see their kids with their parents and they can say, Hello Mr/Mrs. about the grades....lol

Most school districts allow and in fact encourage their teachers to live within their boundaries. If you live nearby your school you have easier access to the campus; less time on the road; a greater sense of community pride in your campus; and you have a greater awareness of the local issues that can impact your school. Of course the closer you live to the campus, the less likely you will become late for work, and the easier it is for you to become involved in extracurricular activities; all pluses for the school.

I think this is true unless the teacher in question has children of their own, in which case it is allowed. I am just going on what I have seen in my school district.
