i have a saddle now, an HDR, and i am very pleased with it. i ride at two different barns (i take lessons at one and i train at another) and it is a pain to have to take my saddle back and forth so i am planning on keeping my HDR at one place and buying a new saddle for the other, but i got off easy because i bought my saddle form my trainer. i am looking for an inexpensive, not new but nice, close contact saddle for jumping and flatwork and i just dont know a type of saddle (i would love a crosby but i dont have the $4000 to spend lol) any help if greatly appreciated ^.^

I have a Colleigate Event Saddle and I love it.
They are around $1000 new. You can pick them up used on E-bay for some pretty good prices at times.
Wintec makes a nice saddle. They fit nice and can be adjusted and they are not leather so they are easy to clean and care for.
State Line Tack had some saddles on clearance. I am not sure of the brands but hte prices were like half of the normal cost andthey looked pretty nice. It was in the new catalog.

Hi there....

If you do a lot of research, you should be able to find something at a really good price online...like on eBay.

When I needed an English saddle, I got a 'package deal' off of eBay. When it arrived, I had my trainer look at it (she was a dressage champion) and she said it was a really nice saddle.

I needed a western show saddle and got one on eBay. When it arrived, I looked it over VERY closely...right down to the stitching and tooling. Then I went to my tack shop. It was built EXACTLY the same as a Circle Y, but the Circle Y brand cost $2100. Mine cost me $315 total, and has a 5 year guarantee.

Also, you may try asking around...a lot. Folks will help you. Dispite what stuffy stuck up horse people will tell you, you do not need to spend a mint on a saddle in order to get a good one. I am not saying the really expensive ones are not worth it, I am just saying that you don't need one like that unless you are at the FEI world championships.

Personally, I have always had very good luck with courdura saddles.

They have nice close contact saddles, and I am sure that you can find one at just about any tack shop for pretty cheep.

I think the best thing about these saddles, is that they are made from synthetic materials, so all it takes to clean them is a damp rag. They are very light weight, because unlike other saddles, they have a plastic tree instead of a wooden one, which makes them very ideal for jumping, endurance riding, and long trail rides, since your horse doesn't have to carry as much weight.

You can also find them with just about any pattern of fabric you could imagine, from plain solid colors to zebra stripes and leopard print.

go with an HDR very nice and reasonably priced. Also try used saddles from your local tack shop and ebay. They are already broken in and cheaper!

I love Wintecs because they are fairly cheap and they are EASY to clean (because they are synthetic) and they are light and easy to transport.
