My period was about a week and a half late, so I took a HPT...which was positive. That was Thursday. On Saturday, I woke up with spotting. It started as a light, brown, discharge...but later turned to a heavier, more red discharge. I also developed cramps (felt just like menstrual cramps). I took Tylenol for the cramps, and used pads (instead of tampons) so I could monitor the discharge. The cramps eventually subsided, but the bleeding continued. It is almost completely gone today, just a few spots (somewhat brown in color) every now and then. I read that with a miscarriage, you will notice clots, or tissue with the blood. I did notice a few small pieces of clotting, or tissue.....but that's it. (I have noticed clots every now and then during my regular period.) I am waiting for my husband's new insurance to start before I head to the doctor. I can wait this out on my own...but I was just curious. I know that even after a miscarriage, a pregnancy test will be positive.

I've been researching this for the last couple of days and I noticed that lots of times the bleeding does last for quite a few days.....that's what made me question whether or not this was a miscarriage. It wouldn't be implantation bleeding...too late for that. Too heavy and red, also. My breasts were swollen and tender, but have almost returned to regular size and are only a bit tender on the sides.

Turns out that I am still bleeding a bit today.....so I'm pretty sure it is a miscarriage.

Wow Honey, I wish I had a good answer to your question. It is just so hard to know for sure. You know if you were further along in your pregnancy I would be more optimistic as a little bleeding could happen and the pregnancy could still be intact. But, this early on there is very little tissue to lose, those few little bits might be all that you will see. Then again, the lining of the uterus builds up when a pregnancy is there and that would have to be shed off also.....that would lead to quite a bit of clotting. That is what I meant, I just don't have a real good answer for you. I know that even doctors are not sure when it is this early. You are right about how pregnancy tests can be positive even after a miscarriage. I am sorry that you can not just call your doctor and get her input but believe me I understand about insurance concerns.
IF the bleeding starts up again or if it becomes profuse, OR if you start passing large clots, please get yourself to the nearest ER, it could be serious. Other than that I am afraid that the best thing to do is the hardest thing to do, just wait and see what happens.
Good luck sweetie and I will be thinking about you. If you have a minute later let me know how it turns out.
Love and Blessings to you.

It probably was. Your body will still have the pregnancy hormone in your system for a period after a miscarriage. You will bleed for a few days afterward. Sometimes your body may even miscarry when you don't even realize you were pregnant. But there is still the possibility I suppose of just having a late period, and a false-postitive test.

In the case of a miscarriage, I would think that the bleeding would last longer. But I don't know what else it could be.

I'm sorry that you are unable to see a doctor right now. I know it is very difficult for you. Let us know what you find out.
