A salt lick is a salt deposit that animals regularly lick. In an ecosystem, salt/mineral licks sometimes occur naturally, providing the sodium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and zinc required in the springtime for bone, muscle and other growth in deer and other wildlife. Harsh weather exposes salty mineral deposits that draw animals from miles away for a taste of needed nutrients.

BTW, using a salt lick or any other type of food to lure animals in for the purpose of shooting them is ILLEGAL in most states and is not what a real hunter would do. Geesh
All living creatures need salt for various health and medical reasons. Farmers put Salt blocks out for thier livestock. sometimes people will place a salt block at the edge of thier property to draw the wild life up so they watch it closer.

It's exactly what it says it is. Salt that gets licked, This might be a natural salt deposit, or it might be a big block of salt that is placed in a field by a farmer and then the cows come and lick it to get the salt. If you put one in the woods, then animals, say for instance, a deer, will come by and lick it to get the salt. If you are living in the woods and want to shoot a deer, this is one way to attract the deer close to you so you can shoot it.

A salt lick is something you put out in the woods for deer to lick. Obviously, it contains a lot of salt, which is good for them. I don't know where to find one, but you can if you look for it.
