Sounds like a thermostat problem.. Check your manual in the back of it in the section dealing with problems and see if it is in there.. If not.. call the 800 number of the company(I do it all the time).. if you do not know the number, go on the Internet and type in.. for example.... Maytag.com.. in their home page, they will have a contact link.. Be ready to give them the model and serial number of your unit

On your gas valve you have either 1 or 2 coils that pull the valve plunger up to let gas in (depends on make). This coil can overheat and can not hold the plunger up anymore, thus shutting off the gas-----no fire. You may also have a air flow problem----check the vent line for blockage>no air or little coming out can and will cause the "safety hi-limit" to cut out on overheating. There are more things that can cause this problem you are having, but requires troubleshooting and perhaps a visit by a serviceman. Try the easy things first---like the air flow / vent line.Next time include the machine make. Good Luck.

(1) Make sure your timer is set for more than 10 mins.
(2) Clean your lint screen after every 3 loads.
(3) If these don't work, then your timer has gone out,or the pilot lighter may need cleaning.
Seek a Repair Man Soon! (Good Luck).

There is a safety thermoswitch that opens up if the temp gets too
high it's not unusual for them to go bad,
since its a gas dryer I highly suggest you get a professional to repair it.
